Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing WPCU's financial reporting/accounting, funds management, leading a team of reconciliations specialists and accountants in the execution of the credit union’s accounting processes in accordance with regulatory and industry standards.

1.Supervises and coordinates activities of WPCU partner-employees engaged in the accurate and timely posting of journal entries, the accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, the maintenance of the general ledger (GL) and the preparation of recurring, fixed asset and depreciation schedules, special operating and financial reports. (20%)

2.Prepares and issues the following financial reports with only a cursory review required by Director of Accounting: (15%)
◦Monthly internally issued stand-alone and consolidated financial statements
◦Quarterly NCUA 5300 (Call Report) and FHLB Collateral Certification
◦Narrative report of large budget to actual variances

3.Manages the centralized account reconciliation processes. Reviews monthly balance sheet reconciliations, Daily GL Transactions, and A/P invoices for accuracy and conformance to policies and procedures. (10%)

4.Assists in the development and revision of practices and procedures as they relate to Accounting. Consults with Department Managers on accounting and internal control concerns. As needed, serves as an Accounting representative on committees aimed at the improvement and development of new procedures and efficiencies for WPCU. (10%)

5.Manages the daily cash flow needs and overnight investments while maintaining the Federal Reserve Bank reserve requirements. (10%)

6.Directs preparation of the annual 990 & 990-T tax returns with third party tax prepare to ensure compliance with IRS regulations while maintaining cost effectiveness. (10%)

7.Along with the Director of Accounting and VP of Internal Audit, the Accounting Manager maintains an effective working relationship with auditors and examiners and actively participates in the oversight of internal and external audits and/or examinations. (5%)

8.Ensures all sales and backup withholding taxes are paid and returns are filed timely and that specific regulatory reporting requirements are met. (5%)

9.Account for the highly technical areas of WPCU investment activity, troubled debt restructuring, and (OREO) other real estate owned. (5%)

10.Serve as back-up for Director of Accounting. (5%)

11.Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Required Skills

The Accounting Manager must be knowledgeable in GAAP, general accounting procedures and regulations that govern the accounting for Credit Unions. The Accounting Manager must also possess the following:

1.A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

2.A minimum of five years’ experience in Accounting at a financial institution or public accounting is required.

3.Previous supervisory experience is required.

4.CPA is highly preferred.

5.Expert level knowledge of Excel is required.

6.Experience with Jack Henry products preferred.
