Assistant Mortgage Processor/Underwriter 1

Position Summary:
The Mortgage Processor is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of residential mortgage applications from initial submission through closing. This position ensures strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and credit union policies while delivering outstanding member service and maintaining effective communication with loan officers, underwriters, and third-party vendors.
In addition to processing responsibilities, the role includes limited underwriting duties for select mortgage and consumer loan products within defined thresholds. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided, offering a clear development path toward becoming a fully qualified Mortgage Loan Processor.
This position will work directly under the current Mortgage Processor, with the intent of transitioning into that role by Q4 2026.

Key Responsibilities:
• Review incoming mortgage applications for completeness and accuracy.
• Order and track third-party services including appraisals, credit reports, title work, flood certifications, and verifications of employment and assets.
• Ensure all loan files are documented in compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., TRID, HMDA, RESPA, TILA).
• Prepare and send required disclosures and re-disclosures within regulatory timeframes.
• Communicate with members, realtors, and internal teams to request missing documentation and provide status updates.
• Work closely with underwriters to resolve conditions and prepare files for final approval. Make underwriting decisions on loans within approval limits.
• Coordinate loan closings, including scheduling, document preparation, and funding instructions.
• Maintain accurate records in the loan origination system (LOS).
• Provide exceptional service to members by answering questions, explaining requirements, and guiding them through the mortgage process.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma is required; associate degree or relevant certifications preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in mortgage processing and underwriting, preferably in a credit union or community bank setting.
• Strong knowledge of conventional loan products and government programs (FHA, VA, USDA) is preferred.
• Familiarity with TRID guidelines and other federal lending regulations.
• Proficiency in mortgage loan origination systems (LOS), Microsoft Office, and electronic document management tools.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.
• Strong communication and member service skills with a team-oriented mindset.
